Backbone of the Bush Award

Behind many a great rural doctor, there’s an amazing spouse or partner, achieving outstanding accomplishments in their own right, while simultaneously supporting their doctor partner and the rural communities they’ve come to call home. Such ‘everyday heroes’ rarely seek (or receive) the accolades they so richly deserve. In order to recognise the outstanding contributions and achievements of such individuals, the Queensland Rural Medical Family Network introduced the Backbone of the Bush Award.

The Backbone of the Bush Award is presented each year at the Rural Doctors Association of Queensland Conference.

To be a recipient of the Award the following criteria is assessed:

  • Service to others

  • Contribution to and involvement in a rural community

  • Length of Service in a rural location

  • Outstanding personal achievements

  • Excellent support for Doctor spouse/partner

  • Contribution to or involvement in the QRMFN (Please note that having no involvement with QRMFN will not prevent a nominee being considered for the Award)

If you know of a rural medical spouse/partner who deserves recognition for all that they do, nominate them for the Backbone of the Bush Award!
