Rebecca Telfer. 2016 Backbone of the Bush Recipient

Behind many a great rural doctor, there’s an amazing spouse or partner, achieving outstanding accomplishments in their own right, while simultaneously supporting their doctor partner and the rural communities they’ve come to call home. Such ‘everyday heroes’ rarely seek (or receive) the accolades they so richly deserve. In order to recognise the outstanding contributions and achievements of such individuals, the Queensland Rural Medical Family Network introduced the ‘Backbone of the Bush’ award.

To be a recipient of the award the following criteria are assessed:

  • Service to others

  • Contribution to/involvement in a rural community

  • Length of Service in a rural location

  • Outstanding personal achievements

  • Excellent support for Doctor spouse/partner

  • Contribution to the Family Network    (Please note that having no involvement with QRMFN will not prevent a person being considered for the Award)

The award is presented each year at the Rural Doctors Association of Queensland Annual Conference.

Nominations for the 2017 'Backbone of the Bush' are now open. Please click on the link below for a nomination form. The closing date for nominations is 30 April 2017. Nomination Forms need to be completed and returned by this date.
